The General preference pane contains the somewhat esoteric
Maximal RAM usage setting. It allows you to determine how much
sound data Amadeus Pro puts into memory before it
starts using temporary files instead. The advantage of using memory
instead of temporary files is that it is much faster to access and
will therefore result in a much snappier
experience. This
however is only true if a sufficient amount of memory is indeed
available. If not, the system will use virtual memory instead, which
is much less efficient than using temporary files. As a general rule,
keep the maximal RAM usage below about one quarter of the total amount
of RAM installed in your computer.
