GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is the current identifier for the former EAN (European Article Number), which was used until 2009.

The GTIN-8 code is the smaller variant of the GTIN-13 code and is only used in lack of space on the packing. An GTIN-8 number will only be franchised when it's been proven neccessary.
