Each of the tracks can have a portion of it selected. In this
example, the portion of sound between about 11:5 and 15 seconds from
the start is selected in the Background music
track. The
Voice
track has an empty selection. In this case, an insertion
point is drawn in red. This is where the program would insert a sound
if you copied and pasted it from another document. The selection can
be changed by clicking into the sound and then dragging the mouse
(with its button still pressed down) until the desired portion is
selected. If a track contains two channels, it is possible to select
only the left (respectively right) channel by clicking near the top
(respectively the bottom) of the track in question. In this case, the
cross
cursor will be modified to show a small L
(respectively R
). This allows for example to apply an effect to
one channel only. It is possible to preview the effect of an edit
before actually performing it. If the selection is empty and one hits
the [e] key, Amadeus Pro will play a short portion
around the selected area of the current track, but omitting the
selection in question. This allows to check for example whether
cutting away a piece of sound will introduce a small artifact or not.
One way of avoiding the creation of artifacts is to use the Extend
to Crossing function in the Selection menu. The length of
the preview can be adjusted with the Length of edit preview
function of the General preferences pane.
